Codafile is a colour-coded lateral filing system built around alphabetical and numeric end-tab labels, so a misfiled file breaks the colour band along the shelf and stands out instantly. For the alternative system, see Filecorp.

Each file is tagged with colour end-tab labels, by letter for an alphabetical system or by digit for a numeric one. Filed in order, the colours line up into bands along the shelf. A file put back in the wrong place breaks the band and shows up immediately, which is what keeps a large system accurate without constant checking.
Alphabetical systems use the A-Z colour label sets, available as full sets or as bulk single-letter packs to top up the letters you use most. Numeric systems use the digit label sets the same way. Match the label type to how you sort your files, and buy single-letter packs to replace the common letters that run out first.
They bind the paper inside a Codafile file without a stapler, using a base, a press bar and a U-piece that thread through punched holes and lock the pages flat. They let you add and remove sheets while keeping the file in order, and they sell in bulk because an active system gets through them.

Files, fasteners and labels

The Codafile range splits into the files and wraps that hold each record, the 3-piece fasteners that bind the paper inside them, and the colour label sets that drive the coding. Alphabetical A-Z and numeric labels come in bulk single-letter and full-set packs, so you can build a new system or top up an existing one. Standard files come in fixed and fitted-clip versions.

Colour coding that polices itself

Codafile is built around one idea: colour end-tab labels that turn a shelf of files into readable colour bands. Tag each file by letter or by number, file it in order, and the labels line up into solid bands along the shelf.
