A drafting chair is a tall, height-adjustable office chair with a footring, made for high benches, standing-height desks and counters where a normal chair sits too low. It uses an extended gas lift to reach those heights while keeping a backrest and proper support.
A drafting chair has a backrest for support during longer sitting, while a drafting stool is backless for quick perching and freedom of movement. Both are tall with a footring; choose the chair for comfort and the stool for flexibility.
At drafting height your feet no longer reach the floor, so the footring near the base gives them somewhere to rest. A comfortable or adjustable footring is important for support and circulation when sitting up high.
Check the seat-height range against your bench or desk. Drafting chairs reach well above standard chair height, but ranges vary, so match the chair's adjustment to the height you need to sit at comfortably.
Most are rated to 120kg as standard. For heavier users or shared use, look for a heavy-duty model, where the rating covers the extended gas lift and base, which work harder at drafting height.

Built tall, with a footring

A drafting chair solves one problem: an ordinary office chair is too low for a high bench, a standing-height desk or a counter. It uses an extended gas lift to reach those heights, and adds a footring, a ring near the base, so your feet have somewhere to rest when they no longer reach the floor.
