Choose a shredder by the cut first, which sets the security level, then match the sheet capacity and bin size to how much you shred. We carry strip, cross-cut and micro-cut machines from Rexel, Fellowes, Dahle and Ideal, including auto-feed models that take a stack and run on their own.

Strip-cut is fastest and most economical for general paper. Cross-cut shreds into short confetti and is the standard for everyday confidential documents. Micro-cut makes tiny particles for the most sensitive material like payroll, HR and client records. The finer the cut, the higher the security and the smaller the bin fills.
It is the DIN standard for particle size. P-2 is strip-cut, P-3 and P-4 are cross-cut, P-5 and above are micro-cut, and P-7 is the finest high-security level. Higher numbers mean smaller particles and greater security. Most offices are well served by P-4, while P-5 to P-7 suit confidential or classified material.
An auto-feed shredder has a lidded tray that holds a stack of paper, often 50 to 750 sheets, and shreds it on its own while you do something else. Most also have a manual slot for the odd page. Rexel Optimum and Fellowes AutoMax are auto-feed ranges. Manual-feed machines like the Rexel Momentum are fed a few sheets at a time.
Most cross-cut and micro-cut office machines take staples and small paper clips without removing them, and many will shred a credit card or CD through a separate slot. Check the product specs for each model, as entry-level units handle less.
Oil the cutters regularly with shredder oil or a lubricating sheet to keep them sharp and prevent jams, more often for cross-cut and micro-cut machines. Empty the bin before it overfills, and use waste bags sized to your model so emptying is clean.
