What's the difference between A4 and Foolscap filing products?

Foolscap is slightly taller and wider than A4 (about 330 × 200mm versus 297 × 210mm). It was the standard NZ office size for decades, so a lot of older filing cabinets, suspension frames and lateral systems are still built for it. If you're starting fresh, A4 is the sensible default — every printer, scanner and folder on the market fits it. If you're topping up an existing system, check what your cabinet was built for before ordering.

How many sheets does a lever arch file actually hold?

A standard 75–80mm lever arch file holds around 500 sheets of 80gsm paper comfortably — call it 400 if you've got a lot of dividers and pockets in there. Going past that puts strain on the lever mechanism and makes it harder to flip pages. If you're regularly maxing them out, switch to a 4-ring binder or split the project across two files.

What's a copysafe pocket and do I need them?

Copysafe pockets (also called clear pockets or sheet protectors) are heavier than standard L-shape pockets and are designed not to lift toner off photocopies or laser prints. If you're filing originals, certificates, training material or anything customer-facing, copysafe is worth the extra few cents per sheet. For day-to-day printouts, plain L-pockets are fine.
