A 2-lever chair adjusts seat height and back angle. A 3-lever adds a third control, usually seat tilt or a seat slide, so you can set the seat depth and recline independently. More levers mean more ways to fit the chair to you, which helps over a full working day.
A mid-back supports your lower and middle spine and suits typical desk work. A high-back carries up to your shoulders and supports the upper back and neck, which is better for longer sittings and taller people. Both adjust for height; the difference is how far up the support reaches.
Mesh lets air through and keeps you cooler, which helps in a warm office or for long hours. Fabric holds a little more warmth and padding and can feel softer. Both can give good lumbar support, so it mostly comes down to your climate and what feels comfortable.
A 24/7 chair is rated for round-the-clock use, such as control rooms, dispatch desks and call centres where a seat is never idle. It uses harder-wearing components, often carries a higher weight rating, and is warranted for that duty. A standard chair is built for a normal eight-hour day.
Many are available both ways. An assembled chair arrives built and ready to use, while an unassembled one costs less and takes a few minutes to put together with the tools included. Check the listing, as some popular models are sold in both assembled and flat-packed versions.

Levers, back height, mesh or fabric

A task chair is the chair you sit in at a desk all day, and a few choices decide which one suits you. The levers set how much it adjusts: a 2-lever chair handles seat height and back angle, while a 3-lever adds seat tilt or slide for finer control. The back height matters too, with a mid-back supporting your lower spine for desk work and a high-back carrying up to your shoulders for longer sittings.

How many levers

The lever count is the quickest way to read a task chair. A 2-lever chair adjusts seat height and back angle, which covers the basics for most desks. A 3-lever adds a third control, usually a seat tilt or a seat slide that changes the seat depth, so you can recline and set how far the seat extends under your legs independently. The more adjustment a chair offers, the easier it is to fit to your body and hold good posture through a full day, which is why the most adjustable models sit in our ergonomic chairs range.

Mid-back or high-back

Back height changes how much of your spine the chair supports. A mid-back reaches the small of your back and the middle of your spine, the right height for everyday desk and screen work. A high-back carries up to your shoulders and supports the upper back and neck, which suits longer sittings and taller people; the larger leather and executive styles live in executive chairs. Both raise and lower on the gas lift, so choose by how long you sit and how much upper-back support you want.

Mesh or fabric

The back material is mostly about temperature and feel. A mesh back is a tensioned weave that lets air flow against your back, so it stays cooler over a long day and in a warm room, and you can see the full range in mesh chairs. A fabric back holds a little more warmth and padding and can feel softer to lean into. Both can deliver firm lumbar support, so neither is simply better; it comes down to your climate, how warm you run and what feels right.

Arms, weight rating and 24/7 use

Armrests take the weight of your arms off your shoulders while you type, which eases neck and shoulder strain, though an armless chair tucks fully under a desk and suits tight spaces. A foot rest helps shorter sitters keep their feet supported once the seat is at the right height, and a chair mat lets the castors roll freely on carpet. Check the weight rating too, commonly 120kg on a standard chair and up to 150kg on heavier-duty models. If a seat is used around the clock, by shift workers, in a control room or a call centre, a 24/7 chair is built for the extra hours with tougher parts and a matching warranty.
