The ballpoint is the pen an office gets through fastest, and for good reason: the oil-based ink dries instantly, lasts for ages and writes on almost anything, including carbon-copy forms. The choice comes down to retractable or capped and the tip width. Read on, or compare the smoother gel pens.

Why the ballpoint endures
