Setting one up on a standard whiteboard requires a bit of structure to keep it from turning into an unreadable mess within a week.
Use Professional Gridding Tape
Never draw your columns, rows, or tables with a standard black marker. Within a few days, someone will accidentally erase a line while changing a task, and your layout will look messy.
Instead, use 3mm or 6mm self-adhesive whiteboard gridding tape to map out your permanent boundaries (like To Do, In Progress, Blocked, and Completed). It gives the board a clean, crisp, printed appearance, but can still be peeled away and redesigned down the line without damaging the board surface.
Colour-Code for Priority, Not Preference
If you give your team a handful of random coloured markers, your board will quickly look chaotic. Create a simple, strict key on the side of the frame and enforce it.
For example, use standard black markers for routine daily tasks, blue for major client deliverables, and reserve red exclusively for critical bottlenecks, red-flag risks, or missed milestones. This lets managers glance at the board from across the room and instantly see where the problems lie.
Shift to Magnetic Tiles
