A4 or foolscap is the first decision: foolscap boxes have the extra room for folders with tabs, fasteners or bulk that stands proud of the page, while A4 boxes fit standard documents exactly and waste no shelf depth. From there it's colour. Lidded options for long-term records are in archive boxes.

Foolscap is slightly larger than A4 and is the traditional NZ filing size. If your folders have index tabs, fasteners or contents that extend past the edge of the page, foolscap gives the clearance. If you store flat A4 documents, the A4 box fits them exactly.
Standard storage boxes can't — suspension files need rails to hang from. The Marbig Ezystack boxes have rails built in and a clear lid, so files transfer straight from a cabinet drawer and stay hanging and visible in storage.
Assigning one colour per department, year or client lets anyone find the right shelf section without reading a single label. With eight colours available in the FM range, most filing systems can run one colour per major category and keep white or kraft for overflow.

Pick the paper size first

Foolscap exists for a reason

New Zealand filing grew up on foolscap, and plenty of offices still run folders cut to it. A foolscap storage box gives those folders — and any A4 file with tabs or fasteners that stick out — the clearance they need, while the A4 boxes suit clean, flat documents with no wasted depth.
