Planner Boards

Reusable whiteboard planners for the whole year, the school term, the month, or tracking who is in and out of the office. Choose the period you need to map, then the surface that will hold up to it.

A year planner lays all twelve calendar months out in one continuous grid, which suits leave, project deadlines and any office working to a normal year. A term planner is built around the school year instead, with the four terms and the holiday breaks already marked, so staff rooms can map assessments, events and relief cover.

It tracks where your people are. Each person has a magnetic name tag that slides between columns such as In, Out, or Working from Home, so anyone at reception can see at a glance who is available without making a call. Larger indicator boards hold more name rows for bigger teams.

Porcelain is the hardest surface and will not scratch, stain or ghost even with daily marking, so it is the pick for boards in constant use. Glass never stains either and looks sharp in a front-of-house space. Painted steel can start to ghost after years of heavy use, and melamine is best kept for light, occasional marking.

Porcelain, glass and lacquered steel boards are all magnetic, so you can use magnets and magnetic cards alongside the marker. Melamine boards usually are not. Staff in/out boards rely on magnets for the sliding name tags, so they are always made on a magnetic surface.

Match it to viewing distance and how much it has to hold. A 900 x 1200mm board reads across a small team room, while 1200 x 1800mm suits a main office wall everyone shares. For staff boards, count your people first and choose a board with enough name rows, allowing for a few extra.

Year, term and staff in/out boards

The board you want depends on how far ahead you are planning. A year planner puts all twelve months in one grid for leave, projects and deadlines. A term planner lays the school year out around the four terms and the holidays. Month and week boards zoom in for day-to-day detail, and a staff in/out board tracks who is in the building, out on a job or working from home.

After the period, the surface is the part that decides how long the board lasts. Porcelain and glass shrug off years of daily marking without ghosting or staining, while painted steel and melamine sit lower in price for lighter use. Quartet, Sasco and BoydVisuals cover the range, and most boards here are magnetic.

Start with the period you need to plan

Every board here maps a different slice of time, so the first choice is how far ahead you are looking. A year planner shows all twelve months at once, the layout you want for leave rosters, project deadlines and seeing the busy stretches coming. A term planner does the same job around the school calendar, with the four terms and holiday breaks already marked. A month or week planner trades the long view for room to write detail into each day. And a staff in/out board is a different thing again: it tracks people, not dates. The table below sorts the range by what each one is built to show.

Planner type What it shows Best for
Year planner All 12 months in one grid, undated Leave, project deadlines, the whole year at a glance
Term planner School terms and holiday breaks Staff rooms, assessment and event planning
Month planner One month with space in each day Teams that plan week to week
Week planner The current week in detail Rosters and short-range scheduling
Staff in / out board Who is in, out or working from home Reception, teams tracking whereabouts

Year and term planners

Year and term planners are the two big-picture boards, and both are undated and reusable: you write the dates on with a marker and wipe the board clean when the cycle turns over, so the same board serves year after year. Year planners suit any office that needs to see leave and deadlines across twelve months, while term planners are built for schools that work in terms rather than calendar months. They are whiteboards underneath, so a set of whiteboard markers and an eraser keep them readable, and if you also run dated wall calendars and diaries you will find those in our diaries, calendars and planners range.

Month, week and staff in/out boards

The shorter-range boards give you room to write. A month planner shows one month with space in every day, which suits a team planning a few weeks out rather than a whole year. A staff in/out board is the one by reception with magnetic name tags that slide between columns, so anyone walking past can see who is in the building, out on a job or working from home. Because it lives in a busy spot, it usually mounts alongside the rest of a wall display, and the matching cork and pin options sit in our notice boards range.

Porcelain, glass or steel: which surface lasts

Two boards can look identical and wear completely differently, because the surface is what decides whether the board still reads cleanly in five years. The big enemy is ghosting, the faint shadow old writing leaves behind once a cheap surface stains. Porcelain is a ceramic layer fused to steel, the hardest surface going, and it will not scratch, stain or ghost even with daily marking, which is why BoydVisuals back it for permanent installs. Glass is non-porous so it never stains either, and it brings a clean modern look that suits an executive space; the glass range carries through to our glassboards. Painted steel and melamine sit lower in price for lighter duty. The table sorts it out.

Surface Ghosting Magnetic Durability Best for
Porcelain (ceramic steel) Will not ghost Yes Hardest, won't scratch or stain Daily heavy use, permanent installs
Glass Never stains or ghosts Yes (strong magnets) Tough, easy to clean Executive and front-of-house spaces
Lacquered / painted steel May ghost over years Yes Good mid-range Normal office use, better value
Melamine Ghosts and stains Usually not Entry level Light, occasional use

Sizing the board to your wall and team

Size follows two things: how far away people read it from, and how many names or weeks it has to hold. A 900 x 1200mm board reads comfortably across a small team room, while 1200 x 1800mm is built for a main wall where the whole office needs to see the plan. Staff boards are rated by how many name rows they carry, so count your people first. Most boards arrive ready to wall-mount, and being magnetic they take cards and magnets as well as marker, so you can move things around without rewriting.
